Job Search Checklist

Before you immigrate to Canada it is important that you plan your job search and plan it well! Looking for a job is a full time job. There are techniques that can shorten the time it takes and also improve your chances for success. 

The following check list is a beginning. The purpose of the check - list is to identify the categories in an effective job search and help you determine where improvement or more effort is needed. Your answers to the following questions may yield some important clues. Answer each question "yes" or "no." 

You and Your Preferences:

1. Can you clearly state your career goals?

2. Can you describe your greatest strength?

3. Can you describe your weakness in a positive fashion?

4. Can you describe specific work activities you do well?

5. Can you list 5 of your accomplishments?

6. Can you list 5 of your job skills?

7. For your job experiences - can you list

  • Tasks You Performed?
  • Contributions you made?

8. Have you determined the salary range for the position you are seeking?

Employer Knowledge:

9. Can you list three fields of employment where you might find a position?

10. Can you list 5 employers who might have an interest in a person with your Background?

11. Have you located 4 to 5 resources to help you find answers to questions 9 & 10?

12.Can you name at least five hiring companies to whom you have applied for work in the last three weeks?

Employer Contacts:

13. Do you look for job openings other than in the newspaper?

14. Have you prepared a resume & are you satisfied with it?

15. Have you asked anyone for feedback on your resume?

16. Have you practiced interviewing?

17. Do you know the most commonly asked interview questions?
